Definition

Medical calls account for over 80% of fire service calls. The Bartlett Fire Department is focused on continually improving citizens' health outcomes; therefore, the City seeks to expand its complement of certified paramedics to strengthen the services it provides to the community and ensure the department continually exceeds citizens' needs.  

Analysis

The Bartlett Fire Department currently has 41 certified paramedics, representing 39% of its staff. The department aims to increase that percentage to 50% by the end of 2025 and 75% by 2030. Progress toward this goal continues, with three (3) employees beginning paramedic school in 2024, and additional personnel entering various levels of emergency medical training in 2025—including five (5) in EMT school, two (2) in AEMT school, and seven (7) in paramedic school during the spring semester.

As of July 1, 2025, two (2) new paramedics were hired, and five (5) more began paramedic school at Southwest Tennessee Community College. One (1) paramedic is set to graduate on August 8, 2025, and seven (7) more are expected to graduate in December 2025. With these additions, the department achieved 48% paramedic staffing in 2025.
