Goal:

Permanently Close and Replace all underground storage tanks operated by the City of Bartlett by 2027

0.00 2.00 2024

Definition

The City of Bartlett is responsible for maintaining a fleet of government vehicles to provide police, fire, utility, and maintenance services. To reduce the cost necessary to fuel these vehicles, the City operates its own fuel tanks. These underground fiberglass storage tanks power the fleet daily and are continually monitored by TDEC to ensure they safely store standard petroleum fluids, biofuels, biodiesels, and ethanol.

Analysis

The underground fiberglass tanks are all nearing the end of their life expectancy. The City of Bartlett is currently evaluating the tanks to begin the permanent closure and replacement cycle and will seek to replace two per year. Public Works has obtained approval from TDEC to permanently close these tanks and has begun the removal process in a staggered manner with the guidance of a third-party engineering firm to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local requirements.

The two underground fuel tanks at Public Works have been removed and backfilled. The new tanks are in place. All wiring and plumbing are in the process of being completed. These should be completed by the spring of 2025.

The project is expected to be complete by 2027.
